Farm Information
Country: Indonesia
Island: Sumatra
Region: LintongIndonesia's key coffee-producing regions are located on the islands of Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), and Timor. Coffee cultivation in Indonesia boasts a 300-year history, closely linked to Dutch colonial rule. The "Lintong" and "Mandheling" coffees originate from Sumatra, located at the western end of the archipelago. These coffees differ significantly in regional origin and color.
Lintong coffees are named after the Lintong region in North Sumatra. Mandheling coffee grows in the province of Aceh, particularly in the Gayo region.
The processing of these coffees is unique as it involves neither traditional wet nor dry processing. The handpicked coffee cherries are pulped, but the remaining pulp is removed manually using sand instead of traditional fermentation. After a few days, the pergamino hull is sun-dried. Once dried, the brittle pergamino hull is removed, and the coffee is screened and sorted by color, size, and weight. This special process gives Lintong coffee its exotic taste.
